Eagles Roll in Opening Round of Districts

To say that the Oran Eagles boys basketball team came out hot in their opening round Class 1 District 2 contest tonight against The Fulton School of St. Albans would be a bit of an understatement.  Oran hit their first eight shots from the field, including two from beyond the arc for an 18-0 lead.  Then, when the Eagles did miss that first shot, Jason Bennett was there for the put back and Oran was up 20-0 with 3:43 left in the first quarter.

St. Albans notched their first score with 1:51 remaining in the initial period and the score was 23-2.  Oran led after one, 26-4.  By half-time the lead had expanded to 37-9.

It was more of the same in the second half as the Eagles were up 61-16 after the third  In that period Oran showed the outside touch as they hit six treys.  Four of those came from Jacob Priggel, who scored 12 of his game-high 20 points during that frame. Hunter Schlosser had one, Thomas Trankler had the other.

It was a running clock in the fourth and Oran came away with the 68-19 victory.

Besides Priggel's 20 points, he also had six rebounds and five assists, Schlosser added 15 points and had four steals, and Trankler chipped in 14 and also had six rebounds.

On the night the team shot 9 for 19 beyond the arc for 47% and were 9 for 11 at the free throw line for 81%.

The #1 seed Eagles, who ended a two game losing streak,  are now 18-8 on the season and will take on the winner of the #4 Risco Tigers and #5 Richland Rebels tomorrow evening at 6:30. Their game will take place later tonight.
