Baseball k'd by Kelly

Yesterday, the Oran High School baseball team traveled to Kelly High School to take on the conference foe Hawks.  Kelly came away with a 4-0 win.

The Eagles gave up a pair of unearned runs in the first and single tallies in the third and fifth.  Oran only managed two baserunners during the game.  Todd Priggel walked with two down in the fourth and Dawson Menz got the only Eagle hit with a two-out double in the fifth.  On the day, Oran batters struck out 10 times.

Todd Priggel (1-3) took the loss, going 4.0 innings. He gave up all four runs, only two earned.  He walked seven and struck out four and allowed four hits.  Kaden Hargrove tossed the final two frames.  He struck out one and gave up one hit.

Coach Joe Bickings said, "We just didn’t have a very good day at the plate and if you can’t get more than one hit it is very tough to win a baseball game.  We are striking out at an alarming rate right now and we have to find ways to just shorten our swing up and put the ball in play.  At times I didn’t think Todd threw that bad but putting 7 runners on via the walk is tough to overcome.  He did battle and limit the damage when he walked the batters but we just didn’t do enough offensively to win the game. "

Oran fell to 8-7 on the season with the loss.  They were scheduled to play Sikeston today but were rained out.  Up next will be district rival Bell City on Monday, on the road.  Also,  Charleston will come to town on Wednesday at 4:30.
