Baseball blanked by Bell City

  • The Oran High School baseball team traveled to Bell City yesterday and lost 3-0 to the Cubs.

Kaden Hargrove (2-2) went four and a third innings for the Eagles, who are now 7-2.  He allowed five hits, three earned runs on three walks and six strikeouts.  Connor Kern went two-thirds of an inning and struck out two.  Carter Heuring made his season debut on the mound and went one inning and had two strikeouts

Coach Joe Bickings said, "this game felt a lot like deja vu.  It reminded me so much of the South Pemiscot game.  We had a great pitchers duel going on and all of a sudden we get hurt by one bad inning.  I thought Kaden threw well again but he ran into the same problem where he walked 3 batters in one inning.  Those 3 batters were the ones that scored.  Anytime Luke Nichols is on the mound for Bell City we know it's going to be pretty tough to score some runs.  Against a kid like him, you have to take every advantage he gives you to score runs and we weren't able to do that.  What I did like was after we gave up 3 runs in the 5th inning we didn't give up and gave ourselves a chance by loading the bases with less than 2 outs.  We just couldn't get the big hit to score some runs.  We score a few runs that inning and who knows what can happen for us the rest of the game."

In the Eagle sixth, down 3-0.  Oran got singles from Heuring, Todd Priggel and "K"ole Simms to load the bags with one out.  That was all they could get though.

Priggel and Simms had two hits on the day.  Simms had a double as well.  Oran was only 1-8 on the day.

The Eagle travel to Bernie on Saturday.  Three innings of jayvee will begin at 11.  The varsity will follow.
