Baseball blasts Bloomfield

The Oran High School baseball team hosted Bloomfield yesterday and won 14-3 in a five-inning mercy-rule affair.

The Eagles led 1-0 after two but sent 10 to the plate in the third when they scored four and 14 batted in the fourth as nine crossed the plate.

Freshman Kolten Payne (2-0) got his first high school start.  He went four innings, giving up five hits and two earned runs.  He struck out five and did not walk a batter.  Connor Kern tossed the fifth, allowing two hits and an unearned run.  He struck out one.

Fellow freshman, Nic Massey, drove in three.  Dawson Menz had two RBI.  Todd Priggel was the only Eagle with two hits on the day.  Massey and Kaiden Hargrove each had double.

Oran improved to 7-1 and will next be in action on Thursday when they travel to Bell City to take on the 6-0 Cubs at 4:30.

Coach Joe Bickings said, "We were able to take advantage of their miscues.  I didn't think we hit the ball extremely well but we were able to use the 7 errors and 7 walks they gave us.  I was really pleased with our pitching. Kolten was making his 1st start and threw it very well.  He stayed around the zone and threw all of his pitches with control. It's really good to see that out of a freshman. Hopefully, our bats come around in our next game. "
