Junior High girls split in opener

The Oran Junior High Girls basketball teams opened their season last night on the road at Chaffee.  The seventh grade lost 21-8. The eighth grade prevailed 56-16.

In the opener, Mari Fuemmeler and Olivia Grisso scored four each.

As a team, they were 2-6 from the line for 33%.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "We struggled to score all night. We had some open looks but just couldn't put the ball in the hole. Defensively we did a decent job but we have to score more consistently."

The nightcap saw the Eagles jump out to a 22-4 lead after one and cruise to a forty-point victory.

Braylynn Morgan led all scorers with 16.  Scarlett Schlosser had 14 and Addie Nichols finished with 12.  They missed their only free throw attempt.

Evans said, "We came out strong in the 1st quarter but didn't keep the momentum going in the 2nd. After halftime, we got back to playing the way we are capable. Going forward we need to put together 4 good quarters. "

The girls will be back in action on Thursday when they host Scott City at 6 pm.
