Track and Field breaks records

The Oran High School boys and girls track and field teams competed in their second meet on Friday.  The Eva Hinshaw Memorial at East Prairie was scheduled for Thursday but was postponed one day due to inclement weather.  During the event, two school records were broken and one was tied.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "I thought we competed very well at this meet."

Bradley Brooks broke his own school record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.77 to finish 5th overall.  He also finished 5th the 200-meter at 24.22.  In the long jump, he had a leap of 19-1 which was good enough to finish second.

On Bradley's accomplishments, Coach  Evans said, " Bradley ran his fastest 100 time ever and did a great job finishing 2nd in long jump which is something he doesn't get a chance to really even practice."

Madison Ramsey also set a new OHS mark in the 1600-meter.  Her time was 6:21 and she finished fourth.  She medaled by taking third in the 800-meter with a time of 2:54.42.

Coach Evans had this to say about Ramsey, "Maddog ran 7 seconds faster in the 800 and showed great endurance running the 1600 as well."

Savannah Below tied the school mark in the high jump at 4-4 and that was good for a fourth-place finish.  She was seventh in the 300M Hurdles (1:01.03), eighth in the 100M Hurdles (26.31) and eighth in the Long Jump (12-8-1/2).

The 4x200M team of Morgan Kern, Cassie Cochran, Jacey Brant and Heather Gosche finished finished 5th at 2:14.14.

Evans said, "Savannah placed in the high jump, her first time ever doing it and also ran well in the hurdles and placed in the long jump. Our relay team is getting better, we just need to master the handoffs."

The girls finished 9th out of 12 teams with 21 points.  The boys were also 9th with 16 points.  There were 11 boys squads.

Their next meet is Monday at Kelly.
