Volleyball opens with road loss

The Oran High School volleyball team dropped its opening night matches on the road at conference foe Kennett.  The junior varsity fell in three sets--21-25, 25-23 and 19-25.  The varsity lost in two-- 15-25 and 22-25.

Head coach Amy Wibbenmeyer told the blog, "I felt like overall we played well for a first game however, we had a lot of first game jitters. The game showed us what we need to work on in practice in order for us to continue to push the team to a higher level. We will work on moving faster, hitting around blockers, and dropped balls. Overall our serve receive was pretty good last night and that is what we have been working on the most in practice. It is simple if you cannot serve or receive the ball with a good pass then you will not do good in a game. We will also be working on our hitting more and placement on the court."

Jessie Long had 5 kills and a block, Kaylee Payne had 2 kills and an ace.  Cassie Cochran had 3 aces and 7 assists, while Kamryn Graviett and Ali Hornback had an ace apiece.

No junior varsity stats were available.

They will play again on Monday when they travel to Oak Ridge for a match scheduled to start at 6 pm.
