Junior high girls advance to finals

The Oran Junior High School girls basketball teams both advanced to tonight's Scott-Mississippi Conference finals at East Prairie with victories last night.  The seventh-grade won 37-22 over Kelly.  The eighth-grade defeated Chaffee 47-26.

Coach Ethan Evans said the seventh grade, "had a few nerves in this game and missed a lot of easy shots early on. Our defense and rebounding were very good and we are happy to be moving on to the championship game."

Maddie Stickel led all scorers with 12. Addie Nichols was right behind with 11.

Bralynn Morgan added six, Laney Shy had four and Liza Dannenmueller and Lilly Knotts chipped in two apiece.

The girls hit five of their 10 free throws for 50%.

They improved to 9-1. Oran, then number 1 seed, will face the third-seeded East Prairie Eagles this evening at 6 pm.

Grace Davis scored 24 for the eighth grade.  Hope Woodfin added 10, including a pair of treys.

Hannah Boshell scored six.  Emma Priggel totaled three and Rylee Boshell rounded out the scoring with a field goal.

They hit 5 of 9 from the line for 56%.

Coach Evans said, "The common theme of a slow 1st quarter showed up again but after that we played fairly well, especially in the 3rd quarter. It would be nice for us to put in a complete 4 quarters tonight during the championship against Delta."

Oran, now 14-1 and the two seed will face the top-seeded Delta squad at 7:15.  The Eagles defeated the Bobcats 34-27 at Oran just under a week ago after the seed meeting had taken place.
