Eagles win two on the road

The Oran High School boys basketball teams picked up a pair of conference wins last night at Delta.  The junior varsity won 55-50 and the varsity picked up a 70-60 victory over the Bobcats.

During the opener, the Eagles won the first and third quarter by enough to hang on for the five-point "W".

Langdon Scheeter had 19 for Oran, with six of those points coming from long-range.  Cooper Priggel had 14 and Tristin Schlosser scored 13.  Priggel hit two treys and Schlosser one.

Cameron Westrich finished with five,  and Ty Johnson, who was saddled with early foul trouble, ended up with four.

Oran hit 63.6% of its free throws (7 of 11).

The younger team improved to 2-1 in Scott-Miss play and 5-1 overall.

They will not play again for two weeks, when the Eagles travel to take on Bernie on Tuesday, January 2nd at 6 pm

The varsity squad saw a 12 point halftime lead (44-32) disappear as Delta knotted the score at 51 near the end of the third.  Oran took a two-point lead, 53-51 into the fourth.  The Eagles used a seven-point run to open the final period and hit enough free throws down the stretch to make the final margin 10.

Jacob Shoemaker led all scorers with 35.  Fifteen of those points came from beyond the arc.  He was also 10-10 at the line, including 4-4 in the waning moments.  Layne Johnson had 16 and was 4 of 4 on free tosses for the Eagles who hit 18 of 25 on the night at the charity stripe for 75%.  Todd Priggel also made double-digits with 11.  He hit one trey.

Tyson Goodale added four points.  Drew Reischman and Denver Elfrink had two apiece.

The varsity now has a 2-1 conference mark and is 5-1 in all games.

They will participate in next week's seMissourian Christmas Tournament at the Show-Me Center.

Oran is the number 5 seed and will face the 12th-seeded Woodland Cardinals on Tuesday the 26th at 4:30 pm.
