Lady Eagles roll into semi's of the Delta New Year Tournament

The number-two seeded Oran Lady Eagles had little problems with the 7th seeded Meadow Heights Lady Panthers tonight as they cruised to an 81-42 rout in the opening round of the Delta New Year tournament.

Despite being in foul trouble early in the first quarter, Leah Cauble outscored the Panthers on her own as she poured in 43.  15 of those points came from beyond the arc and she was six of seven from the free throw line.  Jessie Long had 17 points, six rebounds and four steals.  Katie Webb added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Claire Ramsey hit a trey, grabbed six boards and had a team-leading eight assists.  Heather Gosche, Katelyn Streeter and Taylor Lowes rounded out the scoring with two apiece.

Oran was 24-43 from inside the arc for 55.8% and 6 of 20 from beyond for 30%.  At the line, they were 15 of 22 for 68.2%.

Coach Ethan Evans was not impressed with the outcome, He said, "I didn’t like the effort that we gave, especially on the defensive boards. They outhustled us all night and we did just enough offensively to get the win. Going forward in this tournament we have to play much better."

The Eagles are now 7-2 and will face #6 Scott County Central tomorrow (Wednesday) at 8:30.  The Bravettes upset third-seeded St. Vincent to advance on the winner's bracket side.  Oran defeated SCC 91-34 on Nov. 21st on the road.
