The Oran High School boys varsity basketball team bounced back from a disappointing loss to Chaffee on Tuesday with a convincing 83-21 trouncing of Bell City tonight on the road. There was no jayvee contest.
It was the Cubs' homecoming. Their theme was "Under the Sea" and it wasn't long before it appeared as if they were going down for the third time.
As the Eagle offense was a tidal wave in the first period. Oran led 26-3 five minutes into the game and was up 31-7 after one and 58-11 at halftime.
They cruised on to a titanic 62 point margin, the widest of the season.
Every Eagle available reached the scoring column.
Jacob Shoemaker was the game's high point scorer with 16. He hit one trey. Cole Priggel scored 14, 12 of those coming during the first quarter. Tyson Goodale and Todd Priggel had 11 each. Todd hit one from beyond the arc.
William Kluesner and Peyton McVay had six apiece. Denver Elfrink had five.
Senior Layne Johnson finished with four, which pushed him over the 1,000 point mark for his career. He is the second varsity player to reach that plateau this season. Junior Jacob Shoemaker passed 1,000 points in the third game of the season against Risco.
Avery Mitchem and Joey Phillips both hit treys to account for their points. Calen Read and Drew Reischman rounded out the scoring with two points each.
Oran was only 4 of 14 from the line for 28%.
They improved to 17-4 overall.
The Eagles will be home next Tuesday when they host Bloomfield at 6 pm. It will be Senior Night.
