Volleyball looks to build on successful season

The Oran High School volleyball team will try to improve on last year's 16-12-1 record that included winning the Dig for Life silver bracket of the black division and the small school division of the SEMO Conference pool play. They also posted the program's first winning season in over ten years.

The Lady Eagles have a new head coach for this season as Ms. Amy Wibbenmeyer takes over for Larry Boshell.

The girls actually opened play on the previous Saturday when they participated in a pre-season jamboree at Scott City.  The other team involved was Meadow Heights.  Oran lost both matches 2-0.

Coach Wibbenmeyer had this to say, "I thought we worked hard and played really good. We could always talk more but after watching them play makes us more excited for the season. Other coaches came up to me after our games and told us how great our blocks looked. We have not had time to work on them in practice yet but we have been conditioning so that helped us a lot. We will keep pushing in practice to improve and hopefully, next week we will win our first game."

The coach told the blog, "I would love to become more consistent this year with everything. We have great potential and leadership we just need some of the younger girls to step up and fill positions this year. We are always building and working to become a better team."

At the time of this writing, it is uncertain if there will be a junior varsity team to start the season. Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.
