Lady Eagles swat Hornets

The Oran Junior High School girls basketball teams picked up wins last night over visiting Advance.  Oran defeated the seventh-grade Hornets, 22-9, in a two-quarter game.  The eighth-grade prevailed, 50-13.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "I was pleased with our defensive effort but our offense seemed to sputter at times. We did a good job of hitting the boards and ran the floor to get some easy shots but didn’t convert as many as I would have liked."

In the opener, Oran tossed a first-quarter shutout.  They led 12-0 after one. and cruised to the 13 point win to improve to 7-0.

Addie Nichols hit for 14, including one three-pointer.

Bralynn Morgan scored four.  Lilly Knotts and Scarlett Schlosser added two apiece.

The team was 9 for 13 at the line for 69%.

In the finale, the hosts led 33-9 at the break.  They held their opponents to a goose egg in the fourth and improved to 8-0.

Grace Davis led the way with 16.  Maddie Stickel was also in double-digits with 12.

Emma Priggel finished with eight, including a trey.  Liza Dannenmueller had six.  Carly Gloth added four. Nichols and Morgan rounded out the scoring with a field goal each.

Stickel scored 10 of her points during the opening period.  Davis hit for 14 in the second.

The girls will be back in action on Monday when they host the Kelly Hawks at 6 pm.
