Boys close home schedule with split

The Oran Junior High School boys basketball teams concluded the home portion of its season with a split last night.  The seventh-grade lost to the visiting Chaffee Red Devils, 33-24.  The eighth-grade ended a three-game losing streak with a 53-21 victory.

In the opener, the Eagles kept it close but could not get over the hump.  They trailed 9-6 after one and 19-13 at the break.

Brenden Campbell and Jon Tucker had five each.  Campbell fouled out in the fourth quarter.  Tucker was 3-3 from the line.  Andrew Dennis and Elijah Shoemaker both scored four.  Shoemaker was also disqualified during the final six minutes.  Jase Fuemmeler and Nate Pobst rounded out the scoring with three points each.

Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "The seventh-grade played very hard. We shot free throws better and we are learning more about how to play in close games at the end."

The younger boys were 6 of 8 from the line for 75%.  Their record now stands at 0-4 in the Scott-Miss and 2-8 overall.

The eighth-grade came out on fire.  Built an early lead and continued to expand it to pick up the 32 point win.

It was 9-0 Eagles with 2:43 remaining in the initial period when Chaffee called its first timeout.  Oran led 11-0 after one.  The home team was on top 26-6 at the intermission and the game was all but over.

Coach Shoemaker said, "The eighth-grade came out very active on defense and really pushed the ball in transition. I thought that they also did a good job of blocking out and moving the basketball on offense."

Luke Peterson led the way with 15.  He hit one from beyond the arc.  Robby Menz and Camdyn Tribblett each add a dozen.  Menz hit two treys.

Kolten Payne scored eight, including a three-pointer.  Parker Diebold, Nic Massey and Noah Mitchem each scored two.

The older team was 3-9 from the line for 33%.  They improved their league mark to 3-1 and 5-5 in all games.

Oran travels to East Prairie this evening for a 6 pm conference tilt.
