Eagles crush Cubs in opener

**updated 11/28 at 11:20 am with assorted stats that became available--PY**

The Oran High School boys varsity basketball team opened its season last night at home in the Oran Invitational.  The number-one seeded Eagles had five players reach double-digits as they cruised to a 91-24 shellacking of the eighth-seeded Bell City Cubs.

Jacob Shoemaker had 14 points, including three treys.  Kaiden Massey, off the bench, had 14 as well.
Cooper Priggel had 13 points and also hit three from beyond the arc.  He too came in as a reserve.  Tyson Goodale finished with 12 and Ty Johnson had 10.  Both hit two from long-range.

Todd Priggel scored eight, including a big two-handed slam dunk about halfway through the first period on an inbound pass from Johnson.  Samuel Shoemaker had six points, while Langdon Scheeter and Tristin Schlosser had five.  Scheeter hit a three-pointer.  Calen Read and Avery Mitchem had two apiece.

Oran hit 11 threes on the night and were 12 of 21 from the line for 57%.  They were 11 of 22 from beyond the arc for 44%.  They controlled the boards, outrebounding the Cubs 35-18 and forced 35 turnovers.

The Eagles led 33-2 after one and 56-8 at the break, on their way to the 67-point win.

Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "I thought everyone came out and played hard from the opening tip to the end.  We were a little nervous to start with but was able to shake that off.  I was very proud of the players who came in off the bench and played with such good intensity and I thought we shared the basketball with each other.  It would be easy for a player to try and score a lot in a game like that but they were able to stay disciplined and play good team basketball."

Oran will play at 6:30 Thursday against tonight's winner between 4) Advance and 5) Kelly.  That game is the opener tonight at 6 pm.

In other action last night, 2) Scott County defeated 7) Malden 82-70 and in the nightcap 6) Richland upset 3) Chaffee 52-40.
