Eagles break century mark, Long surpasses 1000

The Oran High School girls varsity basketball team opened the Chaffee Lady Devil Invitational looking for their fourth-straight crown.  The top-seeded Eagles had little trouble in dispatching the #8 East Prairie 100-30.

Oran had four players reach double digits including Senior, Jessie Long, who when she stepped to the free throw line with 4:24 remaining in the second quarter and her team up 43-16 and connected on the charity toss, reached the 1000 point plateau.  She ended up with 21 for the game.

Leah Cauble led all scorers, out-scoring East Prairie on her own, with 34.  Kaylee Payne finished with 13.  Katie Webb had 10 off the bench.

Taylor Lowes scored six, Katelyn Streeter had five, Savannah Below had four and Madison Ramsey ended with three.  Claire Ramsey and Heather Gosche rounded out the score with two apiece.

Webb had a team-high seven rebounds and Cauble had seven steals.  Payne had three assists.

Lowes hit two from the beyond the arc.  Cauble, Payne, Streeter and Madison Ramsey had one each.

Long was 5 of 6 from the line, Cauble was 3 of 3, Below and Webb were both 2 of 2 and Madison Ramsey made her only attempt.

As a team, they hit 34-50 from inside the arc for 68% and 6 of 18 from beyond for 33%.  At the free throw line, they were 14 out of 17 for 82.4%.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "  It was good to get back on the court and play again. I thought we moved the ball well offensively and got after it on defense in the half court set. It was awesome to see Jessie hit a 1000 career points, that is quite the accomplishment."

In other tournament action last night, #5 Scott City defeated #4 Kelly 49-45.  Number 3 Chaffee beat sixth-seeded Delta 53-25 and in the big upset, 7th-seeded Puxico sent #2 Woodland into the loser's bracket with a final of 58-53.

Oran takes on Scott City on Wednesday at 6:30.
