JV girls move on to finals

The Oran High School girls junior varsity team advanced to the championship game of the Bloomfield Invitational last night with a 41-37 victory over the Meadow Heights varsity Lady Panthers.

The Lady Eagles started slow and finished slower but still managed to hang on for the win.

Oran was down 5-4 after one and was outscored 13-2 in the fourth but a 35-19 advantage in the middle two quarters proved to be enough.

Rylee Boshell topped all scorers with 15, nine of those coming from beyond the arc.

Mallory Lowes finished with eight, including a trey.  Hope Woodfin added seven.  Traci Hency had six.  Alyssa Spane hit a three for her points and Hannah Boshell made a field goal.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "The bookends of the game were not very good. The girls played very good second and third quarters though. They shot the ball well the middle two quarters and did a good job limiting them. We need to do a better job hitting free throws down the stretch."

The Eagles were only 4 of 10 from the line for 40% and 0 - 3 in the fourth quarter.

The younger girls improved to 3-1 and will take on Holcomb for the title on Saturday at 2:45 pm.

Number-four Holcomb upset the top seed, Senath, last night 43-23 to move on.

In other action, the East Carter JV beat Bloomfield, 35-21 and Advance blasted the Woodland JV 50-12.
