Lady Eagles lose game and more

The Oran High School girls varsity basketball team not only lost its game to Jackson last night, 84-57 but also lost a second starter due to injury in as many contests.  Kaylee Payne suffered an arm injury against Saxony and was unavailable and will be out indefinitely, and to make matters worse Claire Ramsey injured her foot near the end of last night's game.  She too is out indefinitely.

Against Jackson, the Eagles fell behind 28-17 after one quarter.  Leah Cauble scored all 17.  At the break, it was 49-28.  After three Oran trailed 66-40.  After a brief period of a running clock in the fourth, the final margin was 27.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "We didn't do a good job defending during the first half. I thought the girls did some good things offensively but we have to defend and rebound better. The injury bug has gotten us the last couple of games but I am hopeful we can rally together and be a solid basketball team the second half of the season."

Cauble finished with 36 to lead all scorers.  She hit three three's, was 15-18 from the line,  had five rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot.  She was named to the All-Tournament team.

Jessie Long and Madison Ramsey both scored six, all coming from beyond the arc.  Savannah Below had four.  Katie Webb and Heather Gosche had two apiece and Claire Ramsey hit a free throw.

The girls were 10-21 from inside three for 48% and 7 of 23 from beyond for 30%.  From the line, they were 16-22 for 73%.

They are now 6-3 and will resume action on January 3rd when they host East Prairie in a conference match-up.
