Eagles take two from Hawks

The Oran High School boys basketball teams picked up a pair of conference victories last night on the road at Kelly.

The jayvee won,64-43 and the varsity prevailed 63-41.

Coach Joe Bickings said of his junior varsity, "[It] was a good conference win against Kelly.  We had good balanced scoring from the team as I think we had three or more players finish in double figures.  Our defense played good at times and we were able to turn them over a few times with our press.  I still feel like we are still a little out of sync after coming back from our Christmas break but we are slowly getting back to where we need to be.  They just need to continue to play hard and keep playing as a team and sharing the basketball."

The Eagles did have three score in double digits.  Cameron Westrich led the way with 13.  Samuel Shoemaker added 12.  Logan Rose chipped in 10 off the bench.

Cooper Priggel finished with nine, six of those coming from beyond the arc, in two quarters of action.  Diesel Cato also had nine, Seth Cauble had seven, including a trey and Dane Shands rounded out the scoring with four.

They were 7 of 11 from the line for 64%.  They improved to 2-2 in league play and 6-3 overall.

In the varsity contest, Oran jumped out to a 24-8 lead after one quarter and then cruised on to the 22-point win.

Jacob Shoemaker led all scorers with 29 including 15 during the first eight minutes.  He hit four treys and was 5-6 from the line.

Tyson Goodale added nine, Todd Priggel eight and Ty Johnson six.  Johnson had a trey in his total.  Langdon Scheeter had four as did Kaiden Massey, off the bench.  Cooper Priggel added a trey during varsity action for his three points to round out the scoring.

The older team hit 11 of 14 from the free throw line for 79%.

Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "I thought that we came out ready to play.  We were able to dictate tempo.  I was also pleased with how we executed in the fourth quarter.

They improved to 4-0 in Scott-Miss action and 12-1 in all games.

They will be back in action on Thursday at 6 pm when they host the Woodland Cardinals.
