It doesn't happen very often, so when it does...

As an Oran alum who grew up during the "Ronnie Cookson Era" when the Braves were rattling off state championships like lyrics of a favorite song, Eagle victories over Scott County were few and far between. So, when Oran can put a six-game winning streak in place,  you gotta relish in it!  And that's what happened last night as the Eagles made SCC's homecoming theme, "Shipwreck Homecoming" a reality, with an 87-61 victory.

The Braves came out on the warpath, riding a homecoming "high".  The hosts took an early advantage, but Oran maintained its composure and by the end of the first eight minutes, the Eagles held a 25-20 lead.

In the second, at the 5:54 mark, Jacob Shoemaker hit two free throws, for career points 1,999 and 2,000 and Oran led 33-27, by intermission it was 50-33.

The fourth quarter briefly saw a turbo-clock as the Eagles picked up the 26-point win.

Shoemaker led all scorers with 28, including four treys, as Oran placed five in double-digits.  Todd Priggel had 14, Cooper Priggel 12 off the bench, with two threes, Langdon Scheeter 11 and Tyson Goodale 10.  Scheeter had a trey.

Ty Johnson had 9 with one three-pointer, Calen Read rounded out the scoring with a trey of his own.

The boys were 10 - 14 at the line for 71%.

They improved their record to a perfect 7-0 in Scott-Miss games and 23-1 overall.

Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "We discussed [before the game about} trying to match their energy early. They came out with a big burst but we were able to take it and answer back. I never felt the need to call a timeout because of our leadership on the floor and we had good effort and energy. I thought we shared the ball and ran the floor without the ball very well.

There was no junior varsity contest and the Homecoming festivities were held prior to the varsity tip-off.

The Eagles have now won six-straight over the Braves dating back to the semi-final round of last year's O.I.T.

Oran will close out the regular season next Tuesday when they host Advance for Senior Night.
