Softball smokes Leopold

The Oran High School softball team made the trek up to Leopold yesterday, to take on the Lady Wildcats and picked up a 19-4 five-inning victory.

The Lady Eagles pounded out 19 hits and had two home runs.  The first, by Kaylee Payne, in the second inning set the stage for the rest of the day. It was an inside the park grand slam.  Later, in the fourth, Samantha Welter would smash a two-run shot over the leftfield fence.

Payne went 4-4 on the day with four runs driven in and was a triple shy of a cycle.  She also got win in the circle to improve to 5-2 on the year.  She gave up four runs, all earned on six hits, seven walks and six strikeouts.

Welter was 2-4 and drove in six.  Jessie Long had three hits in four at-bats while driving in four. Claire Ramsey added three hits as well and she drove in a pair.  Rylee Boshell also had two hits with one RBI.

Coach Jim Eftink said, "We had some big hits throughout and we needed them—their catcher really shut down our running game.  The biggest hit was Kaylee’s inside the park grand slam. That broke the game open and gave us a pretty comfortable lead.  Sam also had a big day at the plate. She hit her second homer of the year deep over the left field fence. She probably wishes we played at Leopold more often, as the last time we played there she hit a pair of home runs."

The Lady Eagles improved to 9-4 and will host district foe Dexter (2-12) today at 4:30.
