Boys lose at Chaffee

The Oran Junior High School boys basketball team traveled to Chaffee last night and dropped both games.  The seventh lost 52-27 and the eighth fell, 38-29.

In the opener, the Eagles were down 29-7 at the break but were only outscored by three the rest of the way.

Brison Winchester was the night's top point producer with 20.  He hit one trey.

Colin Shands had four points.  Roman Schlosser added a field goal and Giddeon Davis made a free throw to round out the Eagle scoring attack.

They were 4 of 15 from the line.  They are now 1-3 and 1-7.

Coach Joe Bickings said, "We didn't rebound well at all and that hurt us.  I feel like we let them shoot until they made it and also at times we didn't get back on defense which calculated into easy baskets.  We can't keep taking 1 step forward one game and then the next game 2 steps back.  We have to play more consistent to keep ourselves in ball games"

In the nightcap, it was tied at 9 after one, but the Eagles were shut out in the second period and trailed 17-9 heading into the intermission.  Oran lost the second half 21-20  for the nine-point defeat.

Nate Pobst led the Eagles with 14.

Drake Dannenmueller had four including a three-pointer. Brenden Cambell hit a trey for his points, Jase Fuemmeler made a field goal and Jon Tucker sank a free throw.

Bickings said, "I thought we did a lot of good things during the game but we couldn't throw it in the ocean in the 1st half and we struggle with that at times. In the second half, we scored more.  The only issue is that we didn't keep them from scoring.  We gave up too many transition layups like the 7th grade did.  We can't do that if we want to fight back and win."

The older boys were 4 of 12 at the charity stripe and are now 1-4 and 2-7.

The boys will be back in action tonight  when they host East Prairie.  Tip time is 6 pm.
