Eagles bring home hardware
For the second straight game, the Oran varsity boys basketball team fell behind early but they were able to end the first quarter on top. Last night they led Delta 23-19. At the half, the Eagles were up 35-34. It was tied at 52 heading into the final quarter, making it an eight-minute game. Oran won that final frame 28-18 to defeat the Delta Bobcats 80-70 and claim fifth-place in the 75 Annual SeMissourian Christmas Tournament.
Tyson Goodale had 19 of his game-high 39 points during the first quarter. Langdon Scheeter finished with 21. He hit seven of eight free throw attempts in the fourth. Ty Johnson had 10 points. All three hit a trey apiece. Johnson and Goodale had nine rebounds apiece and Johnson had seven assists. Oran outrebounded Delta 38-31 but lost the turnover battle, 22-18.
Samuel Shoemaker scored eight and Cooper Priggel had two.
The boys were 21-29 at the free throw line for 72.4%. They were 25-38 from inside the arc for 51.9%, but only 3-16 from beyond for 18.8%.
Coach Joe Shoemaker commented, "Delta forced us into a lot of turnovers and we were fortunate to come away with a victory. I am proud of our effort and hopefully, we can take a day and recover because Friday it is going to take a much better performance to get a victory."
Oran improved to 10-1 and will face Delta again on Friday, on the road. The jayvee will tip-off at 6 pm. This was the third consecutive year the Eagles finished fifth in the 16-team event.
Tyson Goodale was named the fan-voted MVP and to the All-Tournament team.
