Boys bounce Braves

The Oran High School boys basketball teams hosted the Scott County Central Braves last night and picked up two conference wins.  The jayvee won 52-33. The varsity rolled 77-42.

In the opener, the younger team was up by only one at the half, 23-22.  but outscored the Braves 27-11 in the final two quarters.

Nick Romas led all scorers with 13.  Seth Cauble had 11, including a trey.

Kolten Payne and Camdyn Triblett each had seven and a three-pointer each.  Diesel Cato scored five.  Luke Peterson had four.  Robby Menz hit a three-pointer for his points and Riley Schlosser hit both of his free-throw attempts.

They were 10 of 17 from the line for 58.8%.  They finished the conference season 7-0 and improved to 20-2 overall.

Coach Joe Bickings said, "It was a battle for us in the first half as we were up just 1 point 23-22.  Scott County's height gave us some problems on offense and rebounding.  We also didn't do a very good job defensively and taking away what Scott County was trying to do.  We made an adjustment at halftime and only gave up 11 points in the second half.  It was nice to get the victory and allow us to go 7-0 in the Scott/Miss Conference.  We have one game left and it is against Advance at Advance.  They will be tough and ready to play after we were able to beat them in the Advance JV tournament in December.  We will have to come out and match their intensity and play a better 1st half then we did against Scott County to give us a chance to win."

In the second game, the Eagles jumped on the Braves early, 55 seconds into the game, Scott County took time out trailing 9-2.  It was 28-7 after one and 54-22 at the break and the Eagles went on to a 33-point win.

The Eagles had four score in double-digits, led by Tyson Goodale's' game-high 20.  He hit one from beyond the arc and had a team-high eight rebounds and was 5-5 from the line.  Langdon Scheeter hit for 16, including a trey. Dane Shands had 11, with three threes and a team-high five assists.  Cooper Priggel had 10 points and two treys.

Logan Rose scored eight, Samuel Shoemaker had six, Diesel Cato, Kaiden Massey and Cameron "Big Dawg" Westrich each had two

They were 14 of 19 from the line for 60.9%, 21 of 45 from inside the arc for 45.7% and 7-15 from beyond for 46.7%.  The Eagles outrebounded the Braves 42-41 and forced 21 turnovers committing 13 of their own.

Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "I thought the boys played very well. We were able to dictate the tempo and get some open looks. I was concerned about rebounding especially without Ty but I was proud of our efforts on the boards. We have Advance on Tuesday who is playing extremely well and will be a big challenge for us. "

Oran travels to Advance on Tuesday.  Game time is 6 pm.
