Varsity Loses, JV Wins at SCC

The Eagles split Friday night at Scott County Central.  In the audience was former Brave and Georgetown Hoya and current member of the Washington Wizards, Otto Porter, Jr.

In Varsity Action:  Oran had an opportunity to clinch at least a share of the Scott-Miss conference championship with a victory over the Braves, who are the third-ranked team in class 2 in the state.  Unfortunately, a cold shooting night by the Eagles would prevent that from happening.

Oran found themselves behind 18-12 after one quarter and the six point deficit would expand to 11 by halftime, 32-21.  It was 47-33 after three with the final score 59-44.

Oran shot a dismal 36% from the floor, just 41%, 14-34 from inside the arc and 23%, 3 of 13, from beyond.  Part of the poor shooting could be blamed on Scott County defensive pressure that forced several altered shots.  Others however were just missed open shots.

Jacob Priggel led the Eagles with 16 points and eight rebounds.  Hunter Schlosser scored 15 and Thomas Trankler  had three assists and two steals to lead the team in those categories.

Oran finishes it's conference season with a 4-2 record, they now stand at 17-8 overall and have lost two in a row for the first time since games two and three of the season.  Those losses occurred during the OIT and came against Malden and Advance.

Junior Varsity Action:  The opening game saw the Eagles jump out to a 20 point lead at half time 35-15 and maintained that advantage until the fourth quarter.  Scott County was able to cut into that lead during the final few minutes by pressing after Oran had emptied it's bench but the Eagles still managed an 11 point final margin of victory at 56-45.

Layne Johnson led the way with 19 points. Denver Elfrink scored 8, Cole Priggel chipped in 7 while Ben Fox and Drew Reischman both added 6.

The younger squad improved it's Scott-Miss record to 2-2 and 10-8 in all games.

Upcoming Action:  The Eagles will close out it's regular season on Tuesday as they host district rival Advance.

Tuesday night is also "Lil Cheer Night", so plan on arriving early to get your favorite seat.
