Eagles Rocked by Rams

The Oran High School baseball team scored a run in the first inning yesterday to take an early lead at Scott City.  But after that, the  highlights were few and far between for the Eagles.

Scott City tied the game in the bottom of the first on an unearned run and plated two more in the second and Oran was never able to recoup on their way to a 9-1 conference loss.

The Eagles scored their lone run after Jacob Priggel singled with two outs, stole second and advance to third on a balk.  Hunter Schlosser, the Bank of Advance Star of the Game, doubled to deep right-center to drive Priggel in.

Oran had a golden opportunity slip away in the fifth inning when they had the bases loaded with one out trailing 3-1 but a called strike three on Priggel on a border-line pitch, followed by a Schlosser fly out ended the threat.

After the Rams escaped, momentum swung to their dug out as they pushed four runs across to extend to a 7-1 lead.  The big blow was a two-run homer.  The home run was followed by back-to-back two out doubles that ended the day for Eagle starter Thomas Trankler.  Layne Johnson relieved and got the final out of the fifth, after the runner on second scored.

Oran allowed two more runs in the sixth for the final margin.

Trankler (2-1) took the loss on the mound, going 4 2/3 innings.  He allowed seven runs, six earned, on nine hits. He walked two and struck out one.  Johnson went the final 1 1/3 and allowed two runs, both earned on one hit and one walk.  He recorded all four outs on strikes.

At the plate, Schlosser had the only extra-base hit on his double in the first. Priggel, Preston Hahn, Drew Reischman and Clay Sauceda each contributed singles.

The Eagles (2-2, 0-1) are scheduled to be back in action today as they travel to East Prairie for another conference match-up.  Game time is 4:30 pm.
