Eighth Grade Girls Defeat Delta

The Oran Lady Eagles picked up a hard-fought conference victory tonight over the Delta Bobcats 29-27.  It was an 8th grade only contest because Delta does not have a 7th grade team.

Oran led 8-5 after the first period but the Bobcats tied the score at 12 going into half-time.

The Eagles managed a one point lead, 18-17 heading into the final period.

In the fourth quarter, with 2:22 remaining Oran held a six-point lead, 28-22, but turnovers and fouls gave Delta a chance.  With 32.6 seconds remaining the lead was down to two, 28-26.

Heather Gosche hit a free throw late to give the Eagles a 3 point lead.  A Bobcat free throw cut the lead back to 2, but Oran was able to stop one final possession to pick up the win.

Taylor Lowes scored 10 to lead the Eagles, Gosche added 9 including 3-5 from the line and 3-4 in the fourth.

Bailey Shipley and Mallory Lowes had 4 each.  Paige Bradley had a big fourth quarter bucket for her 2 points.

As a team Oran shot 3 of 7 from the line for 42% compared to 9-14 for Delta which was good for 64%.

After the game, Coach Ethan Evans said, "I thought we once again lacked in effort the 1st half. We picked the intensity up just enough in the 2nd half to come away with the victory. If we do the little things right and get after it on defense we can be a really really good basketball team. Hopefully we figure it out in the next few days."

The older Eagles improve to 4-2 in the Scott-Miss and 6-3 overall.

Both Eagle teams will be in action tomorrow night when the host conference foe Scott City at 6 pm.  It will be the last regular season game before next week's conference tournament at Delta.
