In the nightcap, after coming off a poor performance on Tuesday evening against Chaffee, the Eagles jumped out to quick 8-0 lead in the first minute and fifty seconds when Kelly took a time out. Kelly scored 4, before Oran scored the next 6 and Kelly took time out number two down 14-6 a couple of minutes later. After one, the Eagles led 23-8.
Oran was up by 25 at the half, 42-17.
By the end of the third the lead was 35 at 58-23. The clock ran the entire final period as the Eagles cruised to a 37 point victory.
Head coach Ethan Evans told the blog this morning, "Last night we finally got back to our style of basketball. We pushed the tempo all night and really got after it on the press. We worked the ball around well and it showed in our shooting percentage."
Leah Cauble scored 28. She also had 7 assists and 6 steals. Brianna Stause hit for 21 points, she hit a personal best for the season 5 treys.
Jessie Long scored six and had a career high 16 rebounds.
Tatum May returned from an injury to add 5 points. Ashlyn McIntosh, who was saddled with early foul trouble, also had 5 and grabbed 8 rebounds. Shiloh Kirn chipped in 2 points.
Claire Ramsey, Hannah Scherer, MacKenzie Graviett and Katelyn Streeter played but did not score.
Oran hit 24-47 from inside the arc for 51% and 5 of 12 from beyond (42%). From the free throw line they were 4 out of 9 for 44%.
Junior varsity:
The opening game was a back and forth affair, Oran led after one and the game was tied at the half. The Eagles had a one point lead heading into the final period but fell behind by one before a Madison Ramsey three-pointer and a lay up by Katelyn Streeter gave Oran a 34-30 lead with four minutes remaining. Kelly called a time out but to no avail, as the Eagles finished the game on a 10-4 run.
Coach Evans had this to say, "This group of girls seem to get better and better each time out. We really rotated well on defense and rebounded good. We handled the press and took the ball to the rim all night."
Katelyn Streeter scored 12 to lead all scorers.
MacKenzie Graviett added 9 despite foul trouble through the second and third quarters. She played the entire fourth period with four fouls. Madison Graviett and Claire Ramsey each chipped in 8. Madison Ramsey had 7 including 2 from beyond the arc. Megan Henson played but did not score.
Oran was 4 of 11 from the line for 36%.
Both teams improved to 4-0 in the Scott-Mississippi Conference. The junior varsity is now 7-3, the varsity improved to 16-3.
When the Eagles hit the floor next, it will be varsity only action in Greenville on Monday to take on the Bears at 6 pm.
The jv will next see action, next Thursday during the home conference match up the with Charleston Blue Jays.
