The Oran High School girls varsity basketball team moved on to Thursday night's championship game of the Delta New Year Tournament, with a 21 point victory over the number 3 seed Scott County Central Bravettes last night 70-49.
The Eagles outscored SCC by 17 during the first eight minutes and led heading into the second quarter by a score of 28-11. Oran was up 44-26 at the intermission.
The Eagles struggled after the break and the lead was trimmed to 11, but bounced back in the fourth to quarter to expand it to the final margin.
Leah Cauble led all scorers with 28. Jessie Long had 16, while Tatum May had 10.
Ashlyn McIntosh added 9. She also had 8 rebounds and 6 steals. Brianna Stause had 7 points, 6 assists and had the team's only trey.
Claire Ramsey, Hannah Scherer and Katelyn Streeter got playing time but did not score.
Oran was 25-50 from 2 point range for 50%, only 1 for 8 from beyond the arc for 12.5%. From the free throw line, the Eagles hit 17 of 23 attempts for 73.9%
Head Coach Ethan Evans told the blog, "We came out on fire and shot a lot of lay ups and short jumpers in the 1st quarter. Scott County packed it in after that and we started forcing bad shots and passes that weren't there instead of running our offense. We closed the game out real well by getting the ball inside and hitting free throws down the stretch."
Oran, the tourney's number 2 seed, will face Saxony Lutheran, the number 1 seed and currently the 5th ranked team in the state in class 3 on Thursday at 7;30 pm.
