Varsity girls toppled by Twin Rivers

For the second straight year the Oran High School girls varsity basketball team played the Twin Rivers Royals as a prelude to a Lady Raiders game at Three Rivers College.  Last year the Eagles lost, 40-26.  This year the results were the same, only the score was different.  The Royals picked up a 20 point win 67-47 over Oran.

The Eagles trailed by 7 after the first eight minutes, 18-11.  Leah Cauble scored 9 of her game-high 22 during the first period.

Hopes for a comeback were all but dashed when Twin Rivers out-scored Oran 19-4 in the second quarter to take a 37-15 lead into the break.

The Royals tacked on two more points to their lead in the third, 19-17, and the Eagles faced a 24 point deficit, 56-32, with only one period left.

Oran trimmed the final margin to 20 by winning the quarter, 15-11.

The 67 points allowed was the highest this season, almost double the season average (34.3).

A disappointed Head coach Ethan Evans told the blog, "We just weren't tough enough in the first half, especially the 2nd quarter. They were more physical than us and it showed. We just weren't up for the challenge."

Cauble scored her 22 with the help of 2 from beyond the arc and 4 of 4 from the line.  She also dished out 3 assists.

Brianna Stause added 8 points, and she too hit 2 from long range.  Tatum May and Jessie Long both chipped in 6 points.  May had 12 boards and Long grabbed 9.  MacKenzie Graviett tallied 3 and Ashlyn McIntosh hit a bucket.  McIntosh had 2 steals.

Poor shooting plagued the Eagles as they only hit 29.8% from inside the arc (14-47).  They fared better from beyond, knocking down 4 of 11 for 36.4%.  They hit 70% from the free throw line by hitting 7 of 10.

Oran fell to 12-3 on the season.

They will be back in action on Monday when they travel to Meadow Heights to take on the Panthers at 6 pm.
