The third quarter proved to be the Eagles' undoing.  The Wildcats out scored Oran 17-8 and pushed their margin out to 19 heading into the final eight minutes.

The Eagles did not quit, but were never able to get over the hump.

They went on a 7-0 run to start the fourth to force a Bloomfield time out with the score 48-36 at 6:52.  The Wildcats regrouped however, and went on a 8-2 run of the their own during the next minute and a half when Oran called a time out.  The score was 56-38 with 5:18 remaining.  The Eagles fought back and cut the deficit to 10, 60-50, with 1:38 left.  Forced to foul, Bloomfield hit their free throws late and picked up the 14 point win.

Junior Varsity

Oran was able to cut the deficit to 9 during the third but they were down by 10 heading into the fourth and got no closer, losing by 16.

Bradley Brooks and Ben Fox both scored 8 for the Eagles.  Denver Elfrink and Drew Reischman each added 6.  Avery Mitchem, Peyton McVay, Joey Phillips and Jon (Downtown) Shipley all chipped in 2 points.

William Kluesner and Calen Read both played but neither scored.

The Eagles were 14 of 28 from the line for 50%.

This morning, Head Coach Joe Shomaker told the blog, "We played a very well-coached, disciplined team in Bloomfield.  I thought they really pressured us defensively and we need to do a better job of taking care of the basketball and of using screens to get open.  We have struggled the last couple of games when teams really pressure us of getting open without the ball.  We will work on that in practice and continue to try to improve as the next couple of games won’t be any easier."

Also he said, "I told the boys last night that our last three games of the year are against very good opponents who have the ability to advance in the playoffs and we need to be ready to compete every day."

The junior varsity is now 6-10. The varsity fell to 13-11.

The boys will be back in action on Friday, when they host the Scott County Central Braves to close out the conference season.  Game time is 6 pm and it will be Senior Night.

During the conference tournament, Scott County did not field a junior varsity squad but as of right now we have not been told they will not have one for Friday.
