Oran soars past East Prairie

The Oran High School girls basketball teams picked up two convincing wins last night at conference foe East Prairie.  The junior varsity won by 30, 49-19 and the varsity picked up a 56 point victory, 75-19.

The varsity contest was decided by the end of the first quarter as Oran finished the first eight minutes up 25-10.  The margin would continue to increase.

The Eagles were up 49-14 at the half.

Oran held it's hosts scoreless in the third and led 69-14 heading into the final period.

With a running clock, the Eagles out scored East Prairie 6-5.

Coach Ethan Evans told the blog, "After the 1st quarter we kind of challenged the girls to pick up their defensive effort and they responded well. On the offensive end we did a good job of moving the ball around and getting some good open looks against their zone."

Brianna Stause out pointed East Prairie on her own, as she poured in a game-high 20.  She hit for a career-high 6 from beyond the arc.  Leah Cauble had 19, including 2 treys.  She also dished out 5 assists.  Ashlyn McIntosh also reached double digits with 14.  McIntosh snared 9 rebounds including 6 on the offensive end.

Jessie Long, Tatum May and Hannah Scherer each added 6.  Long and May had 5 steals apiece.  Katelyn Streeter had a bucket.  Shiloh Kirn and Erin Schlitt each made a throw.

MacKenzie Graviett, Claire Ramsey and Madison Ramsey got court time, but did not score.

Oran hit 38% from three (8-21), 44% from two (20-45).  From the free throw line they were 11 of 21 for 52%.

Junior Varsity

The opening game was close for a period as the Eagles managed only a two point lead 9-7, but by half-time it had ballooned to 11, 22-11.

Oran continued to expand it's lead thanks to 27-8 second half.

Coach Evans said, "It was nice to avenge our loss to them during the conference tournament. The girls really wanted this one and you could tell by the way they played this game from start to finish."

Claire Ramsey and Katelyn Streeter each scored 17 to pace the Eagles.  Ramsey hit three from long distance.  MacKenzie Graviett added 10.

Madison Ramsey hit a trey for her 3 points.  Madison Graviett chipped in 2.

Megan Henson played but did not crack the scoring column.

Oran was 3 of 8 from the line for 38%.

The Eagles are now 6-0 in the Scott-Mississippi Conference.  The jv is 10-3 overall.  The varsity is 19-3.

Both teams will be back in action on Monday when they host St. Vincent of Perryville at 6 pm.
