Oran falls to Naylor in sectional

For the third straight year, the Oran High School girls basketball team ended it's season in the sectional round of state play.  Last night Oran lost to Naylor 61-42.

Naylor jumped out early and led 6-0 just over two minutes in.  The lead was 12-4 when the Eagles took a time out with 3:38 remaining in the first quarter.

After one the score was 17-9.

Oran was down 29-13 as the second period was winding down but two quick buckets cut the deficit back to 12, 29-17, at the intermission.

Any hopes the Eagles had of a comeback were quickly erased as Naylor came out of the break with a 7-0 run and led by 21 heading into the final 8 minutes.

Oran knocked two points off the lead but still fell by 19.

Naylor's size down low controlled the boards and their defensive pressure caused numerous turnovers and kept the Eagles from finding any kind of offensive rhythm.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "We got beat by the one thing that beat us all year, defensive intensity. They got after us and we didn't contain them. We came out flat and didn't hit the boards. It was a disappointing way to end the season but we had a great one. I'm proud of the girls, looking forward to next year and will miss our seniors very much."

Leah Cauble led Oran with 15 points, 9 coming in the fourth quarter.  She was 3 of 3 from the free throw line.

Ashlyn McIntosh and Claire Ramsey had 7 points apiece.  McIntosh also added 5 steals and 4 assists to lead in those categories.  Ramsey came off the bench and hit a trey.  Tatum May scored 6 and grabbed a team-high 7 rebounds.  Jessie Long had 4 points and Brianna Stause hit one from beyond the arc for her 3 points

MacKenzie Graviett, Shiloh Kirn and Hannah Scherer played but did not score.

That tough defense showed in the Eagles' shooting percentage.  From outside the three-point line Oran was only 2 of 15 for 13%, from inside they hit 47% (16-34).  At the charity stripe they were 4 of 6 for 67%.

The Eagles will graduate 5 seniors from this squad MacIntosh, May, Kirn, Scherer and Erin Schlitt.

Oran finishes with a 23-4 to set the mark for most wins in a season by a girls' team.

Last year the Eagles lost to Naylor 59-31.
