Softball wins in 3

The Oran High School softball team scored early and often yesterday when they hosted district foe Advance.  The Eagles defeated of a co-op team of girls from both Delta and Advance 15-0 in 3 innings.

Tatum May pitched a perfect game, striking out 8 of the 9 she faced.  The other batter was retired after ground out back to her.

The Eagles scored 6 in the first.

Sidney Kern walked to start the inning, Leah Cauble homered to center and that was followed by Claire Ramsey's third dinger of the season.  Two outs later, Hannah Scherer drew a walk, stole second and third and scored on a throwing error.  Lexie Davis walked and went to third on May's double.  Both scored on a Brianna Stause single.

Eight crossed the plate in the second.

Kern once again led off with a walk, she stole second and went to third on an error during the theft.  She scored on a Cauble triple.  Ramsey reached on an error and Cauble scored. After two stolen bases and a walk to Maddie Graviett, Jessie Long singled to score Ramsey.  Graviett crossed the plate on an error on the play.  Scherer then walked for a second time, stole second and with one out scored on a May RBI single.  Pinch hitter Madison Ramsey singled and after a ground out, Oran had runners on second and third.  May scored on an error and the other runner advanced to third.  Kaitlyn Streeter got a pinch hit RBI single to make the score 14-0.

Maddie Graviett reached on an error and  then advanced to third on a error attempting to steal to open the third inning.  Hannah Scherer ended the game with an RBI single to invoke the 15 run mercy rule.

With the win, May improved to 1-2.

Cauble had 3 RBI with her home run and triple.  May, Stause and Claire Ramsey all drove in 2.  Long, Scherer and Streeter each had 1.

Assistant Coach Susan Dirnberger said, "Tatum pitched a great three inning no hit game!  She struck out 8 and got the put out at first base on the only ball put into play. The entire team hit the ball well. Two home runs from two freshmen. When we hit the ball well as a team then it help make the game a bit easier to win and we stay right with or surpass our opponents."

The Eagles improved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in district play.

They will host Woodland on Monday at 4:30.
