What's happenin' (5/9 - 5/14)

It's the last week of school and the last week of the regular season for the Oran High School baseball team.  The post-season will begin on Saturday.

The Eagles have three regular season games left on the schedule.

On Monday, they will host district rival Bell City at 4:30.  The Cubs are currently ranked number 1 in the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association poll, an honor they have maintained all season long.  Bell City is currently 16-2 and picked up the number 1 seed in the upcoming Class 1, District 2 tournament that begins Saturday at Advance City Park.  The Eagles are currently 11-8 and are the number 2 seed.  This game could be a preview of the championship game.

The Cubs have won the last two meetings.  During the fall season,  Bell City prevailed 5-4 in eight innings.  Previously they defeated the Eagles in last year's district championship game 4-3 on their way to the state crown in Class 1.

Wednesday will see Oran travel to Poplar Bluff  to take on the Mules on their new all-turf field.  I am being told that the Eagles will face Bluff's junior varsity team because the Mules ended up with too many games.  According to MSHSAA.org web, site Bluff is 5-8.

The regular season will conclude on Thursday when the Eagles will take flight down to the boot heel and take on the Kennett Indians.  Kennett is currently 12-7.

Both mid-week games also start at 4:30.

The district tournament will begin on Saturday with 4 games scheduled.

Oran will face #7 seed Oak Ridge at noon.  The Blue Jays are 4-15 and the Eagles won the regular season match up 11-0.  For more info on the tournament you can click HERE.
