2016-17 Boys Basketball Preview

This year's OHS boys basketball team will return 4 starters from a team that finished 15-14 and was runner-up in the Class 1, District 2 tournament.

And the Eagles will move up to Class 2.  They will compete in district 2, along with Scott-Mississippi Conference foes Chaffee and Scott City.  Also in the district, is annual opponent St. Vincent of Perryville and occasional Christmas tournament adversary Meadow Heights.  The other three competitors are teams that Oran has had little to no prior history, Bismarck, Kingston and Valle Catholic of Ste. Genevieve.   The postseason hoops tourney will be held the next two years at the Perry Park Center in Perryville.

Head Coach Joe Shoemaker said this, "I am looking forward to starting playing games. The players have been going hard and are tired of playing each other. I think if we can rebound and guard we will be able to have a successful season. We aren't real big so we will have to utilize our speed and hopefully, we will be able to shoot the ball well enough to overcome the height disadvantage."

The Eagles return starters Max Priggel (sr), who averaged 16.6 ppg and 6.5 rebounds a game, Jacob Shoemaker (so), 14.1 ppg and 5.8 boards, Layne Johnson (jr)  11.7 ppg and 7.6 rpg, and Cole Priggel (jr)  9.6 ppg and 4.6 rpg.

Freshman Todd Priggel was penciled in to be the 5th starter, but a broken arm during a recent practice session will have him sidelined for at least 6 weeks.

Right now, that 5 the position will be filled by committee.

The roster includes 3 seniors.  Besides Max Priggel, there is Luke Barnes and Wyatt Kinney.

The junior class has a total of 11.  Other than Johnson and Cole Priggel,  the Eagles have Bradley Brooks, Denver Elfrink, Ben Fox, William Kluesner, Peyton McVay, Joey Phillips and Drew Reischman.

Reischman saw some varsity playing time last year as a sophomore.

Also on the roster are Jonathon Shipley and R.J. Yates, they are both expected to also see time at the jv level.

Shoemaker is the only tenth-grader on this year's roster and Todd Priggel the only freshman.
