Eagles beat Blue Jays

It was a clean sweep last night for the Oran Junior High School boys basketball teams after their bus ride to Oak Ridge to take on the Blue Jays, but it wasn't easy.

In the 7th grade game, the Eagles had to erase a 7 point half-time deficit and they did so by outscoring their hosts 16-2 after the break, including a shut out 4th quarter, to pick up a 29-22 win.

The 8th grade won the middle 2 periods by 15 and then won the game by 12, 37-25.

During the first game, Seth Cauble topped both teams in scoring with 12.  He was 2-2 from the line.  Kolton Payne had 7 points.  Robbie Menz and Samuel Shoemaker both added 4.  Nick Romas chipped in 2 points.

Landon Cochran played but did not score.

Oran hit half of their free throw attempts, 5-10.

Head Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "We didn't shoot very well but our defense and rebounding helped carry us to a win."

The 8th grade game was tied at 6 after the first period, but the Eagles scored 25 while holding Oak Ridge to 10, for the "W".

Coach Shoemaker commented, "The 8th grade was able to create some turnovers with the press and convert them into points. They were able to keep the lead and pick up a victory

Ty Johnson and Dane Shands both hit double digits.  Johnson with 15 and Shands 14.  Kaleb Gosche scored 6 and Keaton Stepp added 2 points.

Waylon Shaffer and Drew Smith both played, but neither scored.

Oran hit 7 of their 17 free throws for 41%.

Both teams now stand at 7-2.  They will take 1-2 and 3-0 conference records, respectively, into Thursday's Scott-Miss match up against Chaffee at home starting at 6 pm.
