The Oran High School boys varsity basketball team celebrated homecoming in style last night with a 68-32 victory over the Bell City Cubs. The was no junior varsity contest.
The Eagles jumped out to a 14-4 lead with 3:39 left in quarter one, when the visitors took their first timeout. The score was 23-10 after the first.
Oran expanded the lead to 17, 40-23 at the break.
The home team would take complete control as they went on a 16-2 spurt during quarter number three. The Eagles were on top 56-25 prompting a mercy-rule running clock for the final eight minutes. The margin would grow to as much as 40 before the game ended with a 36 point win.
Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "We played well except the middle of the second quarter where we got a little complacent. I liked the way we moved the basketball and screened for the hot shooter. I also thought we came out with good defensive focus to start the third quarter."
Max Priggel led all scorers with 28. He hit 6 from beyond the arch and was 4-4 from the line. Layne Johnson scored 12.
Jacob Shoemaker had 7 points, while Cole Priggel and Drew Reischman added 6 apiece. Todd Priggel added 5 and Luke Barnes and Peyton Mcvay tallied 2 off the bench.
Oran made 10 out 14 attempts at the free throw line for 71%.
The Eagles improved to 14-7 on the season and will travel to Bloomfield next Tuesday. The JV will tip off at 6 pm.
