Softball knocks off Naylor

The Oran High School softball team picked up another nice win on the road yesterday whey they defeated the Naylor Eagles 8-3, to improve to 10-0 on the season.

Sam Welter (6-0) went the distance in the circle, giving up 3 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits. She allowed 2 walks and struck out 5.

Our Lady Eagles scored first as Sydney Kern singled to start the game and stole second.

Coach Jim Eftink said, "Sydney led off yet another game with a hit. She stole second and scored on two straight groundouts. So we took the lead in the first inning and that's a big plus."

Oran padded their lead in the third when they tacked on 4.  Savannah Elfrink led off with a single. Katelyn Streeter walked.  Elfrink scored on Kaylee Payne's double.  Leah Cauble was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Streeter crossed the plate on a Jessie Long ground out and Payne and Cauble scooted home on Claire Ramsey's single.

The Eagles made it 6-0 in the 5th.  Payne walked, stole second and went to third on Cauble's ground out.  She scored on Long's RBI single.

Naylor made it interesting when the scored 3 in the bottom of the 5th to cut the lead in half.  They used 3 singles, a walk, a hit batter and an error to produce their runs.

Oran responded with 2 insurance runs in the 7th.  Kern walked, came home on Payne's triple.  Payne scored on a passed ball.

Payne was 2 for 3, a double and a triple, with 3 runs scored and 2 runs driven in.

Eftink said, "Kaylee keeps on hitting and driving in runs.  She also had another one of her spectacular plays out on the field when she dove for a grounder and threw out the batter from deep in the hole. I gave her a gold ball for the play."

Ramsey also had a couple of hits, including a double and she drove in a pair.  Long was 1-4 with 2 RBI's.

The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to East Prairie for a softball/baseball doubleheader at 4:30.
