Baseball improves to 4-0

The Oran High School fall baseball team had their home opener yesterday when the Senath-Hornersville Lions came to town.  The Eagles did not show much hospitality to the visitors as they sent them packing after just 5 innings with a 13-3 mercy-rule decision.

Freshman Ty Johnson got the start on the mound.  After retiring the first two, the third batter lined a single back up the middle catching Johnson near the throat.  He was able to stay in the game and was credited with the victory.

Coach Joey Bickings said, "For Ty Johnson’s first start of the year, I felt like he did well... I do want to give him a lot of credit for staying in the game after getting hit in the neck by a line drive.  The kid is a gamer and wants to be out there and that takes a lot of toughness."

Oran pounded three Senath hurlers for 17 hits including six doubles.

Todd Priggel, Clay Sauceda and Cole Priggel had 3 hits apiece.  Sauceda had 2 doubles and 2 rbi.  The Priggels' had a double and a rbi apiece.

Drew Reischman and Denver Elfrink each had 2 hits including a double and both drove in 3.

Johnson picked up his first high school pitching win by going 3 2/3's innings.  He allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, on 4 hits.  He walked 3 and struck out 2.  Sauceda went the final inning and a third.  He struck out 2.

Bickings said, "Overall I thought we played a good game.  It was a nice win but we can always get better."

The Eagles will be on the road for their next 3 contests starting on Friday when they travel to Steele to take on the South Pemiscot Bulldogs (0-4).
