Volleyball season ends in district semifinals

One of Oran High School's most successful volleyball seasons in recent memory came to a close last night with a semifinal loss to the Advance Hornets in two sets 25-8 and 25-11 in the district tournament at Bernie.  The Eagles had defeated the Richland Rebels in the quarterfinals 25-11 and 25-14.

Coach Amy Wibbenmeyer told the blog, "We had lots of aces during the game against Richland which helped us beat them. We also missed about 4 serves in the first game which gave Richland a lot more points than they deserved. Starting our game off with Advance was strong and we stayed up with them. Once they got one good hit on us we just stopped playing. We stopped communicating and working together."

In the opener, Jessie Long had seven aces, three kills and two assists.  Cassie Cochran had seven assists, three aces and two kills.  Kaylee Payne had six kills, five aces, a block and a dig.  Kaitlyn Streeter added a kill.

In the nightcap, Cochran had five assists and four digs.  Payne had four kills, three digs and an assist.  Long seven digs, two aces, a block and a kill.

Kenzie Graviett had two kills and an assist, Streeter added two digs.  Kamryn Graviett was credited with a dig.

The Eagles finished the season 16-12-1, the first time they've finished over .500 since the 2004 season.
