Volleyball loses at Malden

On Monday the Oran High School volleyball team traveled to Malden.  The junior varsity fell in three sets.  They lost the first, 25-21.  They came back to win the second, 28-26, before dropping the tie-breaker 15-11.  The varsity was swept by the Greenwave, 25-17 and 25-14.

Assistant coach Erika Hutchcraft said this about the jv, "We didn’t even come playing the game we know, we played down and forgot the basics: talking. Since they didn’t talk it seemed to really bring about other errors that we could have avoided. Although we won that second set; we didn’t do it by playing well, we rode on the other team’s errors. The JV team is still a work in progress."

Coach Amy Wibbenmeyer told the blog this about the varsity, "We started out very slow and not talking and dug ourselves in a hole from the beginning of the game.  It takes all 6 players working together and when one person isn’t contributing to the team it’s hard to compensate for that.  Our biggest challenge this season is not talking. We have to overcome this in order to push further in the post season.  We did have some good plays but by the time we did that we couldn’t pull it through without having an error."

Katelyn Streeter totaled 12 digs.  Kaylee Payne recorded seven kills and five digs.  Savannah Below notched four blocks and two kills.  Cassie Cochran had five digs.  Heather Gosche added two kills and Kennedi McVay was credited with an assist.

The jayvee fell to 1-4 while the varsity dropped to 4-8.
