Lady Eagles post easy win to close out regular season
The Oran High School girls varsity basketball team rolled to a 99-33 win to close out the regular season last night at home against Scott-Miss opponent Scott City in front of a Lil' Cheer night crowd.
The Lady Eagles started all five seniors, as Claire Ramsey took the court for the opening seconds and Kaitlyn Streeter returned from illness.
Oran led 35-5 after one and margin increased as the night went along.
Coach Ethan Evans said, "It was a great result for our seniors’ final home game. We got up and down the floor and shot the ball very efficiently. Our defense created numerous opportunities for our offense. I can’t say enough about this special group of five seniors and it was nice to send them out with a victory in their final game at home."
Leah Cauble, once again out-scored the opponent. This time she put in 44. She hit three from beyond the arch and was 3-3 at the line. She had four rebounds, four assists and five steals. Kaylee Payne had 13 points and was 3-3 from beyond the three-point line. Payne had four rebounds as well and dished out eight assists and had six steals, both team-highs. Jessie Long had 10 points and six rebounds.
Taylor Lowes finished with nine points, including a pair of treys. Savannah Below had seven points, Madison Ramsey hit a pair of treys for her six points. Kaitlyn Streeter and Katie Webb had four apiece. Webb had a team-high seven rebounds. Heather Gosche had a field goal.
They were 32 of 52 from two for 62%. From three they made 10 of 22 for 46%. At the line, they hit 5-11 also 46%.
They finished 7-0 in league play and are now 19-6 as they head into the Class 2 District 3 tournament that starts tomorrow at Chaffee, as they look to claim a sixth straight district title. The Lady Eagles are scheduled to play at 6 pm on Monday against the winner of tomorrow's Puxico vs Meadow Heights contest. Of course, the weather seems as if it might be an issue.
