The home team jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first two innings.
In inning one, Kaylee Payne led off with a single and with one out Claire Ramsey drove her home with a triple. Jessie Long singled to score Ramsey.
Four more runs crossed in the second, Taylor Lowes and Kennedi McVay singled to start the frame, Lowes scored after Payne lofted a sacrifice fly to right. McVay scored on a Ramsey RBI single. That was followed by a walk to Long. Samantha Welter drove both Ramsey and Long home with a single
In the fourth Ramsey added a solo home run. On the day, she was 3-4 with three runs driven in. Payne, Long, Welter and Lowes each drove in a pair of runs. Those four plus McVay had two hits apiece.
Payne (6-2) went the distance for win, she allowed four runs, all earned on six hits. She walked six and struck out six of the hosts who improved to 11-4.
Coach Jim Eftink said, "That home run by Claire was pretty impressive. I’ve seen her go deep to left, left-center and straight center but it was cool to see her take it to the opposite field. She also went to right field in the first inning to give us a lead. In one inning Claire threw out two runners trying to steal. You don’t see that very often in softball."
"Gotta give some props to Kennedi and Taylor. Kennedi got a two-out rally started with a single. She then stole second and scored on a double by Kaylee. She’s got some wheels and is becoming a big weapon down in the nine hole. Taylor laid down a pair of bunts and reached base both times. One one of the bunts she circled the bases as there was a bad throw all the way into the right-field corner. She also showed some power with a double which got to the fence in left center. I think both Kennedi and Taylor can be difference makers both offensively and defensively next week in districts," he added.
