On Monday, the Oran High School softball team traveled to Marble Hill to face the Woodland Lady Cardinals. The Lady Eagles came away with the 12-1 win.
Each team scored a run in the first.
Oran took the lead for good in the second with a pair of runs. Taylor Lowes worked a leadoff walk and with one out, Kaylee Payne tripled and Leah Cauble singled.
The Lady Eagles added four more in the fourth. They added single tallies in the fifth and sixth before putting up three in the seventh.
Payne (4-2) got the complete-game victory. She allowed one earned run on seven hits. She walked four and struck out three.
Cauble and Claire Ramsey each had two hits and two runs driven in. Ramsey collected two doubles. Rylee Boshell also had a pair of hits and RBIs.
Coach Jim Eftink said, "[It was] another team effort with some key hits and great defense. A couple of plays by Sam and Mallory were outstanding. [We] got another strong pitching performance from Kaylee. She’s looking stronger every time she takes the mound and we...shut down their running game. Claire threw out a pair of runners trying to steal. And can’t say enough about Leah who has to take those throws and make the tag despite limited time at shortstop."
Oran improved to 7-4 and will face Advance tomorrow on the road at 4:30. There will be a junior varsity contest as well following the varsity match up.
