Jr. High girls sweep visiting Eagles

The Oran Junior High School girls basketball teams took two from the visiting East Prairie Eagle last night.  The seventh-grade won in a squeaker 18-16 while the eight-grade rolled 68-6.

In the opener, all five girls scored.  Olivia Grasso had eight points, Caroline Brashear six, Mari Fuemmeler had two,  Ava Knotts and Bailey McCoy each added a free throw for the younger team, who improved to 1-2 and 2-2.

As a team, they were only 2-11 at the line for 18%.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "It was a hard-fought victory for the 7th grade last night. We need to do a better job of shooting free throws and taking the ball to the rim. The defense did just enough to pull it out."

In the nightcap, Addie Nichols scorched the nets for 42 points.  Braylynn Morgan poured in 18.

Molly Spane had four points.  Lilly Knotts and Scarlett Schlosser had two apiece.

They made half of their free throws (3-6).  The older girls are now 4-0 and 5-0.

Evans said, "We got off to a slow start but finally picked it up. Our press gave them lots of fits and gave us some easy baskets. We have yet to put together 4 good quarters this season. "

The teams will travel out of conference next Monday when they head to Bloomfield for a 6 pm start.
