Lady Eagles fall in semis

The Oran High School girls varsity basketball team felt the agony of defeat for the first time this season, losing to the number-nine ranked team in class 4 and number-one seed Notre Dame 49-39 in the semifinal round of the First State Community Bank Holiday Classic.

The fourth-seeded Lady Eagles trailed 20-12 after one and 28-22 at the intermission before losing by 10.

Katie Webb finished with a double-double, leading all scorers with 22 points and grabbing 10 boards.

Taylor Lowes had two treys for her six points.  Kaylee Payne had five points and also had 10 rebounds.  Hope Woodfin had three points, Heather Gosche had two and Grace Davis added a free throw.

As a team they hit 10-30 from inside the arc for 33%,  From beyond, they were 2 of 11 for 18.2 %.  At the line, they made 13 of 18 for 68.4%.

With the loss, they fell to 6-1 and will take on the third-seeded class 3 Saxony Lutheran Lady Crusaders for third place on Saturday at 5 pm for the third-place trophy.
