The number four seed Eagles held a seven point lead after one quarter against the third seed Woodland Cardinals and made it stand up in a 49-43 consolation final at the Lady Devil Invitational in Chaffee on Saturday.
Both Ashlyn McIntosh and Kaylen Glastetter picked up their third fouls in the second quarter as Woodland cut the deficit by 2, down to 5 at 27-22. In the third quarter McIntosh picked up her fourth foul and by the end of the period the Eagle lead was down to four, 40-36.
Glastetter fouled out in the fourth quarter but McIntosh was able to stay eligible after she returned to action with about four minutes left in the contest and Oran was able to hang on to claim the consolation plaque.
During the final period the Eagles did not allow a field goal but the Cardinals did connect on of 7 of 10 free throws. Oran was 5 of 10.
Hannah Scherer was one rebound shy of a double-double with a team leading 14 points and nine rebounds. Allie Cummins did achieve that mark with 13 points and 16 boards, McIntosh added 10 points.
The Eagles are now 3-1 on the season and will be back in action on Monday evening as the host the New Madrid County Central Eagles at 6 pm. It will be the first game of the season for the junior varsity.
