The Oran boys basketball teams lost two contests at Bloomfield last night and
both had a common thread; free throws.

Varsity Action:  For the older Eagles it was a good news, bad news scenario before the game ever started. The good news - Hunter Schlosser made his return, albeit in limited minutes, after being sidelined the past two weeks due to a foot injury. The bad news - Garrison Mangels was out due to a hand injury.  The extent of that injury is unknown pending an MRI.

On the court, a back and forth first quarter saw Oran lead 15-13.

The Wildcats took the lead in the second as they outscored the Eagles 17-9 for a

30-24 advantage.

Oran mounted a comeback in the third period and tied the game at 39 on a Jacob Priggel free throw with just under five seconds left on the clock. But a full court drive by Bloomfield led to a buzzer-beating layup and the Eagles trailed by two.

In the fourth quarter both Max Priggel and Jacob Priggel were disqualified because of fouls and Oran was never able to regain the lead and ended up losing 60-47, which snapped a four game winning streak.

Jacob Priggel matched his jersey number in points with 23 for Oran now 17-7.  Jason Bennett and Priggel each had six rebounds.  Thomas Trankler had 3 assists and five steals to lead the team in those categories.

On the night the Eagles were whistled for 24 fouls, Bloomfield 10.  The Wildcats were 19 for 31 from the line, the Eagles just 2 of 7.

Junior Varsity Action:  In the first game of the evening Oran took a 1-0 lead on a Cole Priggel free throw but never led again in a 59-46 loss.  After one they trailed 17-11 and 29-21 at the half.

The Eagles cut Bloomfield's lead to three after three, 39-36, but a 10-4 Wildcat run expanded their margin to 49-40 three minutes into the fourth.

Oran, 9-8, was led by Layne Johnson with 22 while Cole Priggel added 11.  Priggel also had four assists.  Drew Reischman grabbed 11 rebounds and Bradley Brooks had four steals.

On the night the Eagles were just 1 for 8 from behind the arc and only 11 of 22 from the line including 0-4 in the final period. Bloomfield was also just 50% from the line at 14 of 28.  They were 6-13 in the final seven minutes.  They also drained five treys.

Upcoming Action:  Oran will travel to Scott County Central on Friday for their final conference game of the season.  If the varsity can come out with the victory they would claim at least a share of the regular season conference championship.

Also of note, district seedings take place today.  We hope to have that info, along with brackets for both boys and girls up later this afternoon or early this evening.
