Lady Eagles Comeback Bid Falls Just Short at Chaffee

For most of the game it was all Oran could do to keep Chaffee from running away with the game. The Eagles trailed 16-5 after the first period and they were doubled up 24-12 at half-time.  Oran was able to trim two off the lead in the third and trailed 31-21 heading into the final quarter.

In that final eight minutes the Eagles showed heart and resiliency even though they came up on the wrong end of a 41-36 score.

Playing short-handed with Allie Cummins still sidelined due to injury, Oran  used only five players the entire game, and yet the were able to trim the double digit lead down to four with just over a minute to go.  The  Red Devils missed four free throws in a row, including the front end of 3 one and ones to give the Eagles a chance but Oran just could not connect on the offensive end when they needed it most.

On the evening, Brianna Stause once again led the Eagles in scoring with 14 points with 12 of those coming from beyond the arc.  Hannah Scherer recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.  Ashlyn McIntosh also grabbed 11 rebounds.  Tatum May had four steals for Oran who now has a 2-2 conference record and is 10-9 overall.

The Lady Eagles will be back in action on Thursday as they travel to Charleston for a conference match-up against the Blue Jays.  The game is scheduled to begin at 6 pm and will include a 2 quarter junior varsity game.
